Celebration of Life Memorial

Sunday, January 16 at 2 p.m.

There will be a memorial observance for Al Olthof at the Beatnik Café in Joshua Tree on Sunday, January 16 at 2 p.m. Al died on December 24 at his home in 29 Palms. The coroner determined that his death was due to natural causes.

Al was a long-time local medical marijuana and cannabis law reform activist and a staunch supporter of MAPP. He was an excellent videographer and directed almost 100 Marijuana Compassion and Common Sense TV shows for MAPP that were cablecast throughout the Inland Empire and for a six month period in Los Angeles County as well.  Al’s work as a video chronicler went far beyond cannabis as he attended and made recordings and documentaries of many High Desert events at the Beatnik Café and elsewhere as well as documenting many of the events and programs of the Palm Springs Chapter of Veterans for Peace. Many of Al’s videos produced under the name of Ruby Dunes can be found on youtube.com.

Tom Swann, Executive Director of Palm Springs Chapter of Veterans for Peace will be presenting a commerative and others in attendance are encouraged to do so as well. Coffee and other beverages will be provided and if you would like to bring a food item to share, that would be much appreciated.

Everyone is invited and encouraged to attend Al’s Celebration of Life Memorial on Sunday, January 16 at 2 p.m. at the Beatnik Café, 61568 29 Palms Hwy, Joshua Tree, CA 92252. Due to the fact that many elderly people will be attending, please note that we ask that only people who are vaccinated attend the event and that masks are required to be worn.
